Expiration & Storage Tips
When does Chicken Cutlets expire?
Uncooked chicken cutlets can be stored in the refrigerator for use within 1-2 days. If you want to extend this time, you can store them in a freezer where they should remain good for up to 9 months. Once cooked, chicken cutlets can last in the fridge for about 3-4 days, or in the freezer for 2-6 months.
How do you tell if Chicken Cutlets is bad?
Raw chicken cutlets that are bad usually have a strong, offensive smell. The meat also becomes slimy or sticky to touch. Alternatively, if the colour turns greyish or shows a noticeable green or blue tinge, then it is unsafe to eat. Cooked chicken tenders that have gone bad will look dull, and may also develop mold or have an off smell.
Tips for storing Chicken Cutlets to extend shelf life
• Always store raw chicken cutlets on the bottom shelf of the fridge to avoid cross-contamination.
• Freezing is your friend. Transfer the chicken cutlets to an airtight freezer bag and remove as much air as possible to prevent freezer burn.
• When you are ready to use the chicken, defrost it in the refrigerator overnight. Never defrost it on the counter as it will create an environment suitable for bacteria to grow.
• Make sure to cook the chicken thoroughly to kill any potential bacteria.
