Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

Cook the elbow pasta as per the package directions to al dente state. Once cooked, drain and set aside.

In a pan over medium heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter. Add the finely chopped onion, minced garlic and chopped fresh mushrooms. Saute them until the onions are translucent and mushrooms are soft.

Sprinkle the flour over the onion and mushroom mixture, stir well and cook for about a minute to get rid of the raw flour taste.

Gradually add milk while stirring continuously to avoid lumps and cook until the sauce thickens.

Turn off the heat. Add the tuna, frozen peas and a 1/2 cup of sharp white cheddar cheese. Season with salt and pepper then stir well until the cheese melts.
