Expiration & Storage Tips
When does tortilla strips expire?
Unopened bags of tortilla strips can last two to three weeks beyond their printed 'best by' date if stored properly. Once opened, the freshness of the strips starts decreasing, they can be used for about one week, if they are sealed tightly and stored in a cool, dry place. Freezing is not usually recommended as it can change the texture of the strips making them less crispy.
How do you tell if tortilla strips is bad?
Check for any changes in color or smell. They may develop a stale or off smell and flavor when they have started to go bad. If mold appears or the strips have been stored for longer than recommended, it’s time to throw them out.
Tips for storing tortilla strips to extend shelf life
• Always store the tortilla strips in a cool, dry location to prevent mold and keep them fresh.
• After opening, ensure the bag is sealed tightly when not in use or transfer the strips to an airtight container. The less exposure to air, the longer they will stay fresh.
• Avoid storing them near stovetops, ovens, or other warm areas as heat can increase the likelihood of them becoming stale.
• Do not use if there are signs of moisture in the bag as this might lead to mold growth.
