Expiration & Storage Tips
When does liquid aminos expire?
Liquid Aminos is a pretty stable condiment, and it can stay good for quite a while. Unopened, a sealed bottle can remain in prime shape for up to three years in the pantry, even beyond its Best By date, much thanks to its high salt content which is a natural preservative. Once opened, liquid aminos should be used within 6 months to a year for the best flavor, although it may still be safe to consume after. It doesn't require refrigeration but you can store it in the fridge to potentially extend its quality. Freezing isn't typically recommended as it could alter the flavor and consistency.
How do you tell if liquid aminos is bad?
Spotting spoiled liquid aminos isn't always easy. However, there are some signs you can look out for. If it smells off or sour, or if it undergoes discoloration, it has likely gone bad. Another indication could be the presence of mold or other contaminants in the bottle, an unusual thickness of the liquid, or an altered taste that veers away from its typically savory, salty profile.
Tips for storing liquid aminos to extend shelf life
• Always keep your bottle of liquid aminos sealed and away from direct sunlight when not in use. A cool and dry pantry cupboard is the perfect storage spot.
• While it's not required, consider refrigerating liquid aminos after opening to maintain its best quality for the longest possible time.
• Avoid contaminating the liquid aminos by not dipping used or dirty utensils into the bottle. If you anticipate needing a certain amount for a recipe, it's best to pour that out ahead of time.
• Storing liquid aminos in a glass container rather than plastic can also help preserve its flavor and quality.
