Expiration & Storage Tips
When does kung pao sauce expire?
Unopened Kung Pao sauce can last for up to 2 years if stored in a cool, dark pantry. After you open the bottle, it has a shorter shelf life of about 3 months only when refrigerated. The printed date on the package is a good guideline, but sauce may last a bit longer if conditions are ideal. Kung Pao sauce can also be frozen to be used later but freshness and taste may vary upon defrosting.
How do you tell if kung pao sauce is bad?
If the Kung Pao sauce has a moldy appearance, a strange smell, or changes in texture or color, it has likely gone bad. If the sauce has a thin layer on top, simply skim it off and use the rest. However, if the entire contents of the jar or bottle look strange, toss it out.
Tips for storing kung pao sauce to extend shelf life
• Always store in a cool, dry place prior to opening.
• Once opened, always store the sauce in the refrigerator for optimum freshness, and try to use within 3 months.
• Keep the lid tightly sealed in between uses.
• Consider dividing and freezing the sauce in small containers or ice cube trays for single-use portions, and thaw in the refrigerator when ready to use.
