Expiration & Storage Tips
When does spinach tortilla expire?
An unopened package of spinach tortillas can generally last for about 1-2 weeks past the printed date on the package while at room temperature. Once opened, if stored in the refrigerator, they can last for up to 7-10 days. If you choose to freeze your spinach tortillas, they can last up to 6-8 months.
How do you tell if spinach tortilla is bad?
If your spinach tortilla has a moldy or stale smell, it's a clear sign that it's gone bad. Visible mold or discoloration, a slimy texture, or a sour taste are also strong indicators that your tortilla is no longer safe to eat. Remember, when in doubt, it's best to err on the side of caution and toss it out!
Tips for storing spinach tortilla to extend shelf life
• Store your spinach tortillas in a cool, dry place if unopened.
• Once opened, keep them in the refrigerator inside a resealable bag or an airtight container. Be sure to squeeze out all the excess air before sealing.
• If you'd like to freeze your tortillas, wrap individual servings in plastic wrap before placing them in a freezer bag. This prevents them from sticking together, and it's much easier to take out just what you need.
• To defrost, remove the number of tortillas you need from the freezer and let them thaw at room temperature or in the fridge overnight. For a quicker defrost, you can also place them in the microwave and use the defrost option.
