Expiration & Storage Tips
When does everything bagel expire?
Fresh Everything Bagels, if left at room temperature, typically maintain their quality for about 2 to 5 days. However, they can last up to a week if stored properly. If the bagels are pre-packaged from a store, they should usually be consumed by the printed expiration date on the package, which is typically around 5-7 days after purchase. Once opened, these bagels will last around 2-3 days at room temperature. If you decide to freeze bagels, they can usually last up to 6 months.
How do you tell if everything bagel is bad?
Spoiled Everything Bagels may develop mold, which appears as discolored, fuzzy spots. These can be green, black, white, or even pink. The bagel might also feel excessively hard or dry out, losing its chewiness. A stale taste or stale smell can also be a warning sign. So, if you see any mold or experience any odd smells, bad flavor, or hard texture, avoid eating the bagel.
Tips for storing everything bagel to extend shelf life
• Store bagels in a paper bag at room temperature. This will help them to retain their crispness and prevent them from becoming too chewy.
• If bagels were bought in a plastic bag, it's best to keep it unopened until you're ready to eat them. Once opened, consume within 2-3 days.
• While refrigeration can prevent mold, it tends to make bagels stale more quickly. To avoid this, try freezing them if you won't consume them in a week.
• For freezing, slice the bagels first. Then individually wrap each in aluminum foil or a plastic wrap and finally put them in a resealable bag. This makes it easy to grab and defrost one at a time. Defrost by toasting straight from the freezer or allow them to thaw at room temperature.
