Expiration & Storage Tips
When does dried cherry expire?
Unopened dried cherries can last anywhere from 6-12 months after the printed date on the package. Once opened, it's best to consume them in about two weeks for optimal freshness. However, you can extend this by storing them in the refrigerator or freezer after opening. Once frozen, dried cherries can last up to 2 years in the freezer.
How do you tell if dried cherry is bad?
Over time, dried cherries can lose their color and texture, becoming hard, dry, or overly chewy if not stored properly. Their flavor may become stale or taste off. If you see any visible signs of molds such as white, green or black fuzzy areas on the cherries, it is an immediate sign that they have gone bad and should be discarded.
Tips for storing dried cherry to extend shelf life
• Always store dried cherries in a cool, dry place away from heat and sunlight.
• After opening, store remaining dried cherries in a sealed airtight container or freezer bag to prevent them from getting stale.
• For extended storage, refrigerate or freeze dried cherries. You can defrost them at room temperature when you need to use them, or directly add them to your cooking without defrosting.
• Consider vacuum-sealing dried cherries in bags to prolong their lifespan even further
