Expiration & Storage Tips
When does pineapple expire?
A whole, uncut pineapple can last up to 2 weeks at room temperature if it was ripe to start with. In the fridge, it can last 3 to 5 days longer. Once the pineapple is cut, it should be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator and consumed within 3 to 5 days. If you freeze your pineapple chunks, they can last up to 6 to 8 months.
How do you tell if pineapple is bad?
A bad pineapple might be overripe, where you can smell an intense sweet aroma with a slight hint of fermentation or notice a squishy feel to the touch. If there are brown or dark spots, these indicate mold, and the pineapple should be thrown out. An off-tasting and smelling pineapple is a sign it has gone bad.
Tips for storing pineapple to extend shelf life
• Make sure to store whole pineapples at room temperature and away from sunlight.
• For longer storage life, place them within the fridge's crisper drawer.
• Once cut, place in an airtight container and store in the refrigerator.
• Consider freezing the pineapple if you cannot consume it fast enough. Cut it into chunks and freeze in a single layer. Once frozen, shift them into a freezer-safe, airtight container.
• Remember to defrost frozen pineapples in the fridge and use within one day.
