Expiration & Storage Tips
When does Teriyaki Salmon expire?
Unopened, vacuum-sealed teriyaki salmon, still within its use-by date, can be refrigerated up to two weeks. Once you've opened it, it's typically good for 1-2 days stored in the fridge. If you freeze unopened vacuum-sealed, processed or smoked salmon products, they can last up to three months. Homemade teriyaki salmon should be consumed within 2 days if refrigerated, or can be stored in the freezer for up to 3 months.
How do you tell if Teriyaki Salmon is bad?
Firstly, use your nose. Bad salmon has a strong, sour smell. It's not subtle, so if your salmon smells unpleasantly pungent, odds are it's bad. If the fish smells okay, move on to visuals. If you notice that the color of your salmon is dull or it has a slimy texture, it likely has gone bad. Lastly, if you notice any mold or atypical specks, do not consume it.
Tips for storing Teriyaki Salmon to extend shelf life
• Store in the coldest part of your refrigerator as soon as possible after purchasing. Ideal storage temperature is just above freezing, about 31°F (-0.5°C)
• If not consumed immediately, wrap it tightly in plastic, foil, or airtight containers before refrigerating.
• To freeze, wrap tightly in heavy-duty aluminum foil or place in heavy-duty freezer bags to avoid freezer burn.
• When thawing frozen salmon, it's best to thaw it in the refrigerator. This will keep your salmon as fresh as possible
