Expiration & Storage Tips
When does Catfish Dish expire?
Upon purchasing or preparing a catfish dish, it’s best to consume it within 2 to 3 days if kept in the refrigerator. If you can't consume the Catfish Dish in those timeframes, freezing it upon receiving or after preparation is an option. Frozen catfish dishes can last up to 2 to 3 months and still maintain their flavor and texture.
How do you tell if Catfish Dish is bad?
First, take a whiff. If the dish smells strongly fishy or sour, it has gone bad. Next, pay attention to the color. If it turned green, dull, or it started having white spots it's an indication that it's spoiled. Finally, if there's a slimy or sticky texture when you touch it, it’s not safe to eat.
Tips for storing Catfish Dish to extend shelf life
• Always refrigerate your catfish dish in airtight containers or tightly wrapped to prevent air from drying it out and to avoid any bacteria from contaminating your dish.
• Don’t leave your catfish dish at room temperature for more than 2 hours. Bacteria grows quickly at room temperatures.
• If you're planning to freeze your catfish dish, let it cool first but don't leave it at room temperature for too long. Once it's cool, freeze it immediately.
• To defrost, it's better to transfer the frozen catfish dish from the freezer to the refrigerator for 24 hours before consuming. Avoid defrosting at room temperature to prevent bacterial growth.
• Always remember 'When in doubt, throw it out'. If you're unsure whether your catfish dish is good or not, it's safer to discard it. Your health is much more valuable than a meal.
