Expiration & Storage Tips
When does Carrot Soup expire?
Unopened, a commercially prepared carrot soup can last in your pantry for up to a year past the printed date, thanks to the preservatives added. Once the soup has been opened, however, it must be consumed within 3 to 4 days if refrigerated. No more than 1-2 days if left out at room temperature. Homemade carrot soup also has a similar shelf life once refrigerated, lasting for around 3-4 days. If you've frozen your soup, it can last 4 to 6 months. To defrost, leave it in the fridge for 24 hours before reheating.
How do you tell if Carrot Soup is bad?
The easiest way to tell if your carrot soup has gone bad is by using your senses. Look, smell, and taste (a tiny bit). If the color has darkened significantly, and if it smells or tastes bitter or sour, these are signs that the soup has spoiled. You may also notice a slimy texture if it has gone bad.
Tips for storing Carrot Soup to extend shelf life
• Always refrigerate the soup within two hours after cooking or after it has cooled down to room temperature.
• Store the soup in airtight containers to prolong its shelf life. Mason jars or vacuum-sealed plastic containers work best.
• If you're planning on consuming the soup after a few days, it's best to freeze it. Make sure to leave some space for expansion when filling the container before freezing.
• To avoid waste and make it easier to defrost only the portion you want, freeze soup in single-serving portions.
• Reheat only the amount of soup you plan to consume and don't reheat the soup more than once.
