Expiration & Storage Tips
When does Feta Pasta expire?
Feta pasta is an easy-to-make delicious dish that, like most homemade meals, doesn't have a fixed expiration date. However, there are general rules you can follow. When you first make it, feta pasta is generally good for around 3-5 days in the fridge (40°F or below). Compared to freshly homemade, once pasta is refrigerated, the flavor and texture may start to degrade after those initial few days. If you decide to freeze your feta pasta, it can last up to about 2 months. Keep in mind though, pasta tends to get a bit mushy after defrosting.
How do you tell if Feta Pasta is bad?
Foul smell is one of the most evident signs to know if your feta pasta has spoiled. If it gives off a sour or otherwise unpleasant smell, it's time to toss it out. Another indication is a change in color or texture. If the pasta looks very dry, sticky, or if the feta gets very hard, it's likely gone stale. Spotting mold is also a clear sign your pasta has gone off.
Tips for storing Feta Pasta to extend shelf life
• Always store your feta pasta in a refrigerator set at 40°F or below to preserve its freshness.
• Use airtight containers to store your pasta. The less exposed to air, the slower your food will deteriorate.
• In case you want to freeze your feta pasta, it's better to store it in smaller portions. This way, you only defrost what you need, keeping the rest frozen and fresh.
• When ready to defrost, transfer your feta pasta from the freezer to the fridge, allowing it to defrost slowly and maintain its texture.
• If the pasta becomes dry after a couple of days in the fridge, adding a little water before reheating can help rejuvenate it.
