Expiration & Storage Tips
When does Beef Bourguignon expire?
As a prepared dish, Beef Bourguignon should be eaten within 3-4 days if refrigerated properly. If it's frozen, it can last up to three months. Even in its sealed, unopened state it should be eaten within this timeframe. Be aware that consuming the dish past the expiration date on the package (if purchased pre-made from a store) is not recommended for safety reasons.
How do you tell if Beef Bourguignon is bad?
If your Beef Bourguignon smells sour, or if there are signs of mold growth, it's time to throw it away. Changes in color, especially darkening of the meat, is another sign that the dish may have gone bad. It's better to err on the side of caution - if in doubt, throw it out!
Tips for storing Beef Bourguignon to extend shelf life
• Keep your Beef Bourguignon in the refrigerator at 4°C (40°F) and ensure it's properly sealed in airtight containers to prevent air entering and spoilage occurring.
• To freeze the dish, separate it into portions in freeze-safe containers, so you can easily thaw individual servings.
• It's important to fully cool the dish before storing it in the fridge or freezer, as placing hot food in these environments can raise the overall temperature, which isn't good for food safety.
