Expiration & Storage Tips
When does raspberry preserves expire?
An unopened jar of raspberry preserves can last up to two years if stored in a cool, dry, dark location such as your pantry. Once opened, raspberry preserves should be refrigerated and will typically keep for 6 to 12 months. After this period, their quality may start to decline, but if stored properly, they should remain safe to eat for a longer duration. If you decide to freeze your raspberry preserves, they can last up to 12-18 months.
How do you tell if raspberry preserves is bad?
Spoilage of raspberry preserves is fairly easy to detect. If you see any mold, discoloration, or peculiar odor, do not consume the preserves. Additionally, if the preserves have become too thick and are not spreadable or if they taste unusually sour, bitter or flat, it's best to toss them out. Remember, when in doubt, throw it out!
Tips for storing raspberry preserves to extend shelf life
• Always store raspberry preserves in a clean, airtight jar to extend their shelf life.
• Keep the jar in the fridge after opening. The cold environment slows down microbial growth and preserves the flavor and quality.
• Use a clean spoon every time you dip into the jar to avoid introducing bacteria that could spoil the preserves.
• If you're not going to consume the raspberry preserves in a short period of time, consider freezing them. Just portion them into small airtight containers or freezer-safe bags, leaving some headspace to allow for expansion.
• Thaw frozen raspberry preserves in the fridge overnight before using them. Never refreeze thawed preserves.
