Expiration & Storage Tips
When does Cherry Cake expire?
Store-bought or homemade cherry cake can last for about 2-3 days at room temperature if kept properly in a cool, dry place. In the fridge, it can last up to a week, provided it is stored in an airtight container to prevent it from drying out. For long-term storage, you can also freeze cherry cake where it’s good for up to 4-6 months. Just remember to let it defrost overnight in the refrigerator before serving.
How do you tell if Cherry Cake is bad?
If your cherry cake develops mold, or if it has an off odor or taste, it has gone bad. Another way to tell is that it simply becomes too dry to enjoy. Also, if it has been left out more than two days at room temperature or more than a week in the refrigerator it should probably be tossed as it may develop spoilage bacteria.
Tips for storing Cherry Cake to extend shelf life
• It's best to store your cherry cake at room temperature in an airtight container.
• For longer shelf life, refrigerate the cake, but remember to seal it properly to avoid it absorbing other foods' smell.
• If you plan on freezing the cake, consider cutting it into portions. This way, you can thaw only the quantity you need.
• If your cake has a cream or custard filling, it needs to be refrigerated right away.
• Even if kept in the refrigerator or freezer, ensure your cake is covered properly to prevent it from drying out.
