Expiration & Storage Tips
When does blueberry bagel expire?
Unopened packaged blueberry bagels commonly have a shelf life of 5-7 days past the printed date when stored in a pantry at room temperature. Once the package is opened, consumption within 2-3 days is advised. Alternatively, if stored in the refrigerator prolonged freshness can be achieved, extending the shelf life for an additional 7-14 days after the printed date. If you're storing your blueberry bagels in the freezer, they can last for 6-8 months.
How do you tell if blueberry bagel is bad?
Staleness is the first sign that your blueberry bagel isn't as fresh. It will lose its softness and become hard to touch. Visible mold (usually patches of white or green fuzz) is a sure sign that the bagel has gone bad. If the bagel has an off smell, or if the blueberries inside look darker than usual or are overly mushy, it's best to discard the bagel.
Tips for storing blueberry bagel to extend shelf life
• Always store your bagels in a cool, dry place, like a breadbox, to prevent them from becoming stale.
• If you've opened a pack of bagels and don't plan on eating them all within a few days, consider refrigerating the remaining bagels. This helps to extend their shelf life.
• For long term storage, slice your bagels before freezing. This way, you can easily defrost a single slice as needed without having to defrost the entire pack.
• When stored in the freezer, make sure to properly wrap the bagels in aluminum foil or place them in a zip-top bag to prevent freezer burn. Defrost frozen bagels at room temperature or in the microwave using the defrost setting.
