Expiration & Storage Tips
When does potato bread expire?
An unopened loaf of store-bought potato bread can last for about 5-7 days past its printed date on the packaging if stored at room temperature, and up to 3 months if frozen. Once the bread is opened, it typically stays fresh for about 2-3 days at room temperature. If you decide to freeze opened bread, make sure to do that before it gets stale - the freezing process won't renew its freshness.
How do you tell if potato bread is bad?
Check for obvious changes in color, smell and texture. If the bread has green, black or blue spots on it, it's likely mold and the product should not be consumed. Also, if the bread has an unusually sour or off smell, it's most likely gone bad. Similarly, if the bread has become hard, dry, or overly crumbly, these are signs that it's gone stale.
Tips for storing potato bread to extend shelf life
• Store unopened potato bread in a cool, dry place such as a bread box or pantry. Avoid refrigerating it to prevent it from going stale faster.
• Once opened, ensure to keep the bread in a closed container or a breadbox to slow down the staling process.
• To freeze potato bread, wrap it well in plastic wrap or freezer-safe storage bags. Make sure there's no air trapped inside to prevent freezer burn. Bread can be stored frozen for up to 3 months.
• When you're ready to thaw frozen bread, do so at room temperature. Avoid using the microwave as it can make the bread soft and mushy.
