Expiration & Storage Tips
When does dried mango expire?
Dried mango, when unopened, can last up to 1 year past the printed date on the package if stored correctly. After being opened, the dried mango will typically remain at best quality for about 1 month. Beyond that, the flavor and texture may start to degrade but it should still be safe to eat if it's free of mold and unpleasant smells. If you freeze the dried mango, it can last up to 2 years.
How do you tell if dried mango is bad?
Dried mangoes that have gone bad may develop dark spots or mold, have an unpleasant smell or have a hard texture. Molds can be of different colors and sometimes may not be visible, so your nose is your best tool here. If it smells different from how it originally did, it's best to err on the side of caution and discard it.
Tips for storing dried mango to extend shelf life
• Store the dried mango in a cool, dry place like a pantry, away from heat and light.
• After opening, it's best to squeeze out as much air as possible before resealing the original packaging. If the original packaging isn't resealable, you can transfer the dried mangoes to airtight containers or ziplock bags.
• If frozen, let the dried mangoes thaw slowly in the refrigerator to maintain their quality and texture.
• Including a food grade desiccant pack in the bag can help absorb any excess moisture and prolong shelf life.
