Deep red on the inside and out, beets can be prepared a variety of ways: boiled, baked, steamed or grilled. Plus, there's no need to peel this root vegetable â just give it a thorough wash before slicing and dicing. A prime candidate for pickling, beets have a slightly sweet, earthy taste. Use caution however when handling, as beet juice can stain skin and porous surfaces.
