Expiration & Storage Tips
When does Chocolate Cookies expire?
Commercially packaged cookies have an expiration date printed on the packaging, usually about 6-12 months after the manufacturing date. However, this doesn’t mean the cookies are unsafe to eat after this date, but they might lose their freshness and taste. Once opened, the cookies should be consumed within 1-2 weeks for the best taste, but can be safe for longer if stored properly. If frozen, they can last 6-8 months, but remember to defrost them at room temperature before consuming.
How do you tell if Chocolate Cookies is bad?
Look for changes in the cookie's texture or color. If they've become overly hard and dry, they're past their best. Any spots of mold or changes in smell are also signs they've gone bad. Additionally, a stale or off taste also indicates the cookies are no longer fresh.
Tips for storing Chocolate Cookies to extend shelf life
• Always reseal the original bag tightly after every use to keep the cookies fresh, or transfer them to an airtight container.
• Store them in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight or any heat source.
• Do not store cookies near products with strong smells (like onions or garlic) as they can absorb the odor.
• If you need to store them for longer, consider storing them in the freezer. However, make sure to seal them properly in a zip-top bag or airtight container to prevent the cookies from absorbing other food odors in the freezer.
• When cooling homemade cookies, make sure they're completely cool before storing to prevent moisture build up and condensation.
