Expiration & Storage Tips
When does Scallop Dish expire?
An unopened scallop dish bought from a grocery store or restaurant can last up to 1 to 2 days in the fridge, depending on the freshness of the scallops at the time of purchase. Once opened or if it's a homemade scallop dish, it should be consumed within 1 day for the best quality and safety. Partly consumed scallop dishes should be refrigerated and consumed within 1 day for safety and flavor. If you've frozen your scallop dish, it can extend its shelf life to about 2-3 months. Although, it can affect its taste and texture.
How do you tell if Scallop Dish is bad?
Spoiled scallops can give off a sour or ammonia-like smell, different from the ocean-like, sweet smell of fresh scallops. Touch can also be a good indicator. If the scallops feel slimy or unusually soft, they are likely bad. Additionally, if you see any signs of mold, it is not safe to eat. When in doubt, it's always best to err on the side of caution and discard them.
Tips for storing Scallop Dish to extend shelf life
• Always refrigerate your scallop dish as soon as possible after serving. Seafood products spoil quickly at room temperature.
• To store your scallop dish in the fridge, use an airtight container to prevent any contaminants.
• If you're not going to eat your scallop dish within a day or two, consider freezing it. Place it in a heavy-duty freezer bag or wrap securely with heavy-duty aluminum foil or plastic wrap. Be sure to expel as much air as possible from the bag before sealing it to prevent freezer burn.
• Always thaw a frozen scallop dish in the fridge, not at room temperature. If you're in a hurry, you can choose to thaw it in a sealed plastic bag in a sink of cold water. Change the water every half hour until the dish is thawed.
