Expiration & Storage Tips
When does Flatbread Pizza expire?
An unopened, store-bought flatbread pizza usually lasts about 1 week beyond the 'best-by' date on the package if kept in the fridge. Once opened or if homemade, it's best to consume it within 2-3 days. If frozen on purchase or immediately after being homemade, it can last 1-2 months in the freezer.
How do you tell if Flatbread Pizza is bad?
A spoiled flatbread pizza can have off smells, especially a sour or 'yeasty' scent. Additionally, slimy or discolored spots may appear on the surface, these might be green, white or black - a sure sign of mould. The cheese on top can also become hard or dry out and the crust may turn very tough.
Tips for storing Flatbread Pizza to extend shelf life
• Always refrigerate your flatbread pizza if not consuming immediately
• To freeze, fully wrap the pizza in plastic wrap or aluminum foil, then put in a zip-lock bag to avoid freezer burn
• Write the date on the bag before freezing so you know when you put it in there
• When thawing frozen pizza, it's best to do so in the fridge overnight to avoid sudden temperature change which can encourage bacterial growth. Then, heat thoroughly in an oven to a minimum internal temperature of 165°F for safety and quality
• Avoid keeping the pizza in the danger zone temperature (40°F - 140°F) for prolonged periods. This isn't just during storage, pay attention during serving too!
