Expiration & Storage Tips
When does spiral carrot expire?
Spiral carrots are a fresh and delightful presentation of carrots and like all fresh vegetables, have a definite shelf life. Unopened and stored in the fridge, spiral carrots can last for about 1 week. However, once you've opened or peeled the package of spiral carrots, it's recommended to consume them within 2-3 days. If you decide to freeze your spiral carrots, they can last for up to 8-12 months. Frozen spiral carrots should be defrosted in the refrigerator for a few hours before using.
How do you tell if spiral carrot is bad?
It's pretty easy to tell if your spiral carrots have gone bad. Look for any visible spoilage such as mold or dark spots on the carrots. Additionally, if the carrots have an unpleasant or sour smell, it's a sure sign they are no longer good to eat. Spiral carrots that have become slimy or very limp should also be discarded. If you see ice crystals forming in the bag of frozen spiral carrots, it indicates that they have been frozen for too long, and while not necessarily bad, their taste and texture would be significantly diminished.
Tips for storing spiral carrot to extend shelf life
• Store your spiral carrots in a sealed plastic bag in the refrigerator. This helps to maintain their freshness and prevent them from drying out.
• Do not wash the carrots until you're ready to use them. Washing them beforehand can lead to quicker spoilage.
• If you're going to freeze the spiral carrots, blanch them first for 2-3 minutes, then dunk them in ice water to stop the cooking process. This helps to maintain their texture and color.
• Always defrost frozen carrots in the refrigerator and not at room temperature to prevent bacteria growth.
