Expiration & Storage Tips
When does passion fruit expire?
An unopened passion fruit can last at room temperature for 1-2 weeks until it is fully ripe. Once it has ripened and starts to wrinkle, it should be consumed within a few days. If you haven’t cut into it yet, you can extend its life by storing it in the refrigerator, where it might last for 2 to 3 weeks. Storing a cut passion fruit is a bit different; it should always be refrigerated and will only stay good for about a week. Freezing passion fruit is an option too. Cut it in half, spoon out the pulp, and store it in the freezer for up to a year.
How do you tell if passion fruit is bad?
A passion fruit that has gone bad will exhibit some noticeable signs. These include a very soft or squishy texture, a strong, unpleasant smell, or visible mold. The interior could also darken considerably. If any of these signs are present, it's best to discard the fruit.
