Expiration & Storage Tips
When does Sausage Rolls expire?
Unopened sausage rolls from the grocery store can usually be stored for 1-2 weeks in the refrigerator before being cooked, or by the 'use by' date that is printed on the package. Once you've cooked the sausage rolls, they should be eaten within 3-4 days if kept in the refrigerator. If you decided to freeze the sausage rolls, whether uncooked or cooked, they can last up to 2-3 months.
How do you tell if Sausage Rolls is bad?
Sausage rolls that have gone bad will often have a pungent, sour, or off smell. The pastry may not be as flaky as it used to be, and the sausage could possibly have a slimy texture. Additionally, if you see any signs of mold, unusual discoloration or if the rolled dough has become very hard and inedible, throw them away.
Tips for storing Sausage Rolls to extend shelf life
• Always keep sausage rolls refrigerated until it's time to cook them. It’s important to not leave them at room temperature for more than 2 hours.
• Wrap cooked sausage rolls tightly in foil or plastic wrap or place in an airtight container before refrigerating to keep them from drying out and absorbing odors from other foods.
• If freezing sausage rolls, wrap individual portions in foil and then put in a zip-top bag to prevent freezer burn and to make defrosting easier.
• When you're ready to eat the frozen sausage rolls, defrost them in the refrigerator overnight before reheating in the oven at 350°F for about 20 minutes, or until hot and crispy.
