Expiration & Storage Tips
When does marble jack cheese expire?
Unopened, marble jack cheese can be kept for 3 to 4 months. This is just a general guideline and it's always best to check and consume your cheese before the manufacturer's expiration date printed on the package. Once the cheese has been opened, it's best to consume it within 2 weeks but no more than 1 month if frequently covered and refrigerated. If you choose to freeze the cheese, it can last up to 6 months. Keep in mind though, freezing may change the texture and taste of the cheese a bit
How do you tell if marble jack cheese is bad?
The easiest way to tell if marble jack cheese has gone bad is by the look and smell. If you see mold, discoloration or dry, hard edges, it’s probably time to say goodbye. Sniff the cheese too; if it smells sour or off, it's not safe to eat.
Tips for storing marble jack cheese to extend shelf life
• Always store your cheese in the refrigerator, preferably the vegetable drawer where it’s a bit more humid
• Wrap your cheese well. You can use wax paper, cheese paper, or special cheese bags. Avoid using plastic wrap if possible as it can cause the cheese to sweat
• If you've cut into the cheese, try applying a thin coat of butter to the cut surface before you re-wrap and store. This can help maintain moisture and keep the cheese from drying out
• Consider freezing only if you have more than you can use in a timely manner. Remember, freezing will slightly alter the taste and texture
