Expiration & Storage Tips
When does Apple Bread expire?
Unopened store-bought apple bread can last up to a week past the 'best by' date printed on the package if stored at room temperature. Once opened, you should consume it within 2-3 days. However, if you chose to refrigerate the bread immediately after purchasing, you can extend its life up to 2 weeks, even after opening it. Frozen apple bread can last up to 3 months if properly stored in the freezer.
How do you tell if Apple Bread is bad?
One surefire way to tell if your loaf of apple bread has gone bad is by looking for any visible mold or funky coloring. If any spots of mold are present, unfortunately, your entire loaf has gone bad. Additionally, smell can be a big indicator. If it has a sour or off-putting smell, it's time to let it go. Lastly, if the bread feels damp or slimy to the touch, it's past its prime.
Tips for storing Apple Bread to extend shelf life
• Store your apple bread in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight for standard room temperature storage.
• If you want to keep it fresher for longer, wrap it in a plastic bag or aluminum foil and refrigerate.
• Remember to squeeze excess air out of the storage bag to limit exposure to oxygen which can increase the rate of mold growth.
• For freezing, slice the bread first and then freeze it. This way, you can defrost one or few slices at a time instead of the whole loaf.
• To thaw frozen apple bread, simply leave it out on the counter and allow it to naturally reach room temperature. If you're in a rush, you can also use your microwave's 'defrost' setting.
