Expiration & Storage Tips
When does Panna Cotta expire?
Panna Cotta follows the general dairy-based product rule. Typically, homemade Panna Cotta can last in your fridge for about 2-3 days. Always remember, if you're working with fresh dairy, your Panna Cotta's lifespan starts to count from the moment your ingredients were prepared, not from when the dessert itself was made. It would be best if you didn’t freeze Panna Cotta as it will lose its smooth texture.
How do you tell if Panna Cotta is bad?
First smell it, if it has a sour or off-smell, that's a definite sign it's gone bad. Next, look at it. If you notice any mold or discoloration, it's time to throw it away. The texture can also indicate if your Panna Cotta is bad. If it's curdled or too hard, even straight from the fridge, then it's not safe to eat.
Tips for storing Panna Cotta to extend shelf life
• Always transfer your Panna Cotta into an airtight container if it's not already in one. This will prevent it from absorbing smells of other foods in the fridge.
• If you made more portions, try to put each portion in a separate container, so you don't have to keep opening the same tub, which can decrease its shelf life.
• Invest in good quality dessert cups with lids if you're a frequent Panna Cotta maker. Not only will this improve presentation, but also preserving your dessert.
• It's worth mentioning again: do not freeze it. The defrosted Panna Cotta will be nothing like the one you put in the freezer. Stick to enjoying it fresh within a couple of days.
