Expiration & Storage Tips
When does Salmon Pasta expire?
Unopened, pre-packaged salmon pasta if refrigerated can last up to 2 days beyond the 'best by' date on the package. Once it has been opened, it should be consumed within 2-3 days. If it's a home-cooked salmon pasta, it should also be consumed within 2-3 days of cooking. If frozen, salmon pasta will keep for 1-2 months in the freezer and should be thawed in the refrigerator overnight before reheating.
How do you tell if Salmon Pasta is bad?
The first sign that salmon pasta has gone bad is a strong, fishy odor, which becomes more pronounced as the pasta spoils. Additionally, you may notice a change in color or appearance, such as the pasta becoming exceptionally dry or the fish developing a slimy, dull exterior. If these signs are present, it's best to discard the pasta. Always use your judgment: if it tastes off, throw it out!
Tips for storing Salmon Pasta to extend shelf life
• Always store your salmon pasta in airtight containers or tightly wrapped in a film to maintain freshness. This applies when refrigerating or freezing.
• Store your salmon pasta at or below 40°F (4°C) in the refrigerator, as higher temperatures can encourage bacterial growth.
• If you plan to freeze, do so as quickly as possible (within 2 hours of cooking is best) to maintain quality.
• Reheat leftover salmon pasta thoroughly, to at least 165°F (74°C) to kill potential bacteria.
