Expiration & Storage Tips
When does blueberry yogurt expire?
When stored properly in the refrigerator, unopened blueberry yogurt can last between 2-3 weeks past the printed date on the package. Once opened, it should be consumed within 5-7 days for the best quality and flavor. If frozen, it can last up to 2 months, but be aware that freezing can affect the texture resulting in a grainy feel.
How do you tell if blueberry yogurt is bad?
If your blueberry yogurt has gone bad, it might have a sour smell, or you might see visible mold or discoloration. Look out for signs of excessive liquid on the top, large lumps or a change in texture, or a sharp sour taste that is stronger than normal.
Tips for storing blueberry yogurt to extend shelf life
• Always store your yogurt in the refrigerator at 40°F (4°C) or below.
• Do not leave the yogurt at room temperature for more than 2 hours.
• Once opened, it’s best to consume it as soon as possible.
• If you don’t plan on using the yogurt within a week of opening, consider freezing it. To freeze, pour the yogurt into an airtight container leaving about half-inch of headspace at the top for expansion.
• When you want to defrost frozen yogurt, put it in the refrigerator 24 hours before you plan to eat it. Be aware that the texture might change and it might not be as creamy as when it was fresh.
• Always use clean utensils when scooping out yogurt to avoid introducing bacteria that can spoil it faster.
