Expiration & Storage Tips
When does gummy bear expire?
Gummy bears can last quite a while due to their sugar concentration. If unopened, they can stay good for 9-12 months past the printed date on the package. Once opened, they will last 6-9 months if kept in their original packaging or in an airtight container. If frozen, they can last up to a year, although freezing is not a common storage method.
How do you tell if gummy bear is bad?
If your gummy bears have become hard, discolored, or have developed an off smell, it's time to toss them out. Normally, gummy bears are soft and chewy. A hard texture means they've likely lost their moisture – a sign they're past their prime.
Tips for storing gummy bear to extend shelf life
• Store gummy bears in an airtight container or bag to keep them fresh.
• Keep them in a cool, dry place, away from light. If they're exposed to light or heat, they could become sticky and melt.
• Do not refrigerate as it could make them hard.
• If you need to store them for a long time, freezing is an option. Just ensure they're in a freezer safe bag or container to prevent freezer burn. To defrost, simply place them on your kitchen counter until they reach room temperature.
