Expiration & Storage Tips
When does campari expire?
Unopened Campari can last indefinitely as it doesn't have a specific expiration date. Do keep an eye on the color and texture though. Once opened, it's best to consume it within a year, although it can still be safe for consumption even after a year if stored properly. However, the flavor might start to deteriorate after the first year. Freezing Campari isn't a common practice and it may affect the texture of the liqueur.
How do you tell if campari is bad?
If you notice any changes in the color, smell or texture, then that would mean your Campari has gone bad. It will start to lose its vibrant red color and the taste will start getting dull. Campari, like other alcohols, might also develop sediments if expired. Smell it before drinking; it should have a rich, bitter sweet smell. If it smells dull or sour, it's best to discard it.
Tips for storing campari to extend shelf life
• Always make sure to store your Campari bottle upright and in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight, like a pantry or cabinet. Heat and sunlight can cause the Campari to deteriorate faster.
• Ensure the cap is tightly sealed after each use to prevent the alcohol from evaporating, thus preserving its flavor and texture.
• Should you choose, you can refrigerate your Campari once opened. This can slightly extend its shelf life, and besides, many find Campari on ice or chilled to be more enjoyable.
• Do not freeze your Campari. The high alcohol content prevents it from freezing solid, but the cold can still affect its texture and flavor.
