Expiration & Storage Tips
When does tequila expire?
Tequila in sealed, unopened bottles can last indefinitely without losing any of its flavor or potency. The open bottles of tequila should be consumed within 1-2 years for maintaining the best taste. However, if stored properly, the opened bottle could still be safe to consume even after many years. Tequila cannot be frozen due to its high alcohol content.
How do you tell if tequila is bad?
Though it's extremely rare for tequila to go bad, there are signs you can look for. If you notice a change in color, an odd smell (should not smell rotten or sour), or a significant flavor change, it might be time to say goodbye. Moreover, if the cap was not tightly sealed, and you notice dust or debris in the bottle, it's best to discard it.
Tips for storing tequila to extend shelf life
• Store your tequila upright in a cool, dark place to help preserve its flavor.
• Maintain a constant temperature, ideally between 10 to 20 °C (50 to 68 °F), to prevent evaporation and degradation of the taste.
• Always ensure the bottle is tightly sealed after use. This not only prevents evaporation but also keeps the dust or debris from entering the bottle.
• Store an open bottle of tequila in a refrigerator to slow down the oxidation process, which can affect its taste over time.
