Expiration & Storage Tips
When does Chocolate Bark expire?
If kept unopened in a cool, dry place, chocolate bark can last up to a year. Once you've opened the package, aim to consume it within a few months. If you've made your own chocolate bark at home, try to eat it within 3 weeks. If stored in a freezer, Chocolate Bark can last for up to 6 months without its texture or flavor being altered.
How do you tell if Chocolate Bark is bad?
If your chocolate bark has a grayish or white 'bloom' on the surface, don't worry. This is just the fats or sugars coming up to the surface and it's still safe to eat. However, if the bloom is accompanied by an off smell, if the chocolate is overly dry and crumbly, or it has mold, it's better to err on the side of caution and throw it away.
Tips for storing Chocolate Bark to extend shelf life
• Store your chocolate bark in an airtight container or zip-lock bag to maintain its flavor and texture.
• Keep it out of direct sunlight and away from any heat sources. The ideal storage temperature is between 60 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit.
• If you freeze your chocolate bark, wrap it well in cling film or aluminium foil before placing it in an airtight container or bag to prevent it from absorbing any odors. When you want to thaw it, let it sit in the refrigerator for 24 hours before moving to room temperature. This prevents condensation from forming and making the chocolate soggy.
