Expiration & Storage Tips
When does candy bar expire?
Candy bars have an outstanding shelf life. They can last 6-9 months beyond the 'best by' date on the packaging if unopened and stored perfectly. Once opened, a candy bar should be eaten within 1-2 weeks. Freezing a candy bar extends its life by another 2 to 3 months.
How do you tell if candy bar is bad?
Identifying a bad candy bar can be quite straight forward. Firstly, if there's a noticeable alteration in color or texture - such as excessively hard or white spots on a chocolate part, it’s probably bad. On unwrapping, if you see visible mold or bugs, its time to say bye-bye to the candy bar! Lastly, if the candy bar smells strange or different from normal, it's time to throw it out.
Tips for storing candy bar to extend shelf life
• Always store your candy bar in a cool, dry place to avoid melting and insect infestation.
• The fridge could be the best place to store in summer or in hot locations. Just wrap it in cling film or a ziplock bag before refrigeration.
• If you need to store them for longer, freezing can be an option. Just ensure you wrap it up properly before freezing to maintain its texture and flavor.
• If you plan to keep it for just a while after opening, try to keep it in an airtight container or resealable bag to prevent it from drying out or absorbing other food odors.
