Expiration & Storage Tips
When does tamarind nectar expire?
Unopened, commercial tamarind nectar can last up to 18-24 months from the date printed on its packaging. Once opened, store it in the refrigerator and try to consume it within 7-10 days for best flavor. If you decide to freeze it, it will last up to six months.
How do you tell if tamarind nectar is bad?
If your tamarind nectar has gone bad, there are a few telling signs you can watch for. The first is any visible mold or discoloration. You should not consume it if it has changed color or has anything floating in the liquid. A change in smell or taste is another indicator. If it smells or tastes sour, it has likely spoiled.
Tips for storing tamarind nectar to extend shelf life
• Always secure the lid tightly after each use to prevent exposure to air.
• Keep your tamarind nectar refrigerated after opening for the best taste and a longer shelf life.
• To extend its shelf life, freeze the nectar in ice cube trays, and once frozen, transfer the cubes to a freezer bag. This way, you can use it cube by cube, without having to worry about the entire jar spoiling.
• Instead of dipping into the tamarind nectar jar with a spoon obtaining residue from other dishes, pour what you need into a separate bowl to prevent contamination.
