Expiration & Storage Tips
When does bagel chips expire?
Bagel chips are relatively long-lasting. Their exact shelf-life will vary depending on the brand, ingredients, and preservatives used, but generally, they can last for about 1 to 2 weeks beyond the 'best by' date printed on the package when unopened. Once opened, they should ideally be consumed within 1 to 2 weeks. To maximize their lifespan, you can also freeze bagel chips; however, this may affect their texture.
How do you tell if bagel chips is bad?
Determining whether bagel chips have gone bad is pretty simple. First, give them a good look. If you notice any mold or other major discoloration, it's best to toss them. Likewise, bad bagel chips can often smell stale or oddly sour. Another clear indicator is texture—bagel chips should be crispy; if they have become chewy or soft, it is a sign they might have gone bad.
Tips for storing bagel chips to extend shelf life
• Store the bagel chips in a cool, dry place such as a pantry or cupboard.
• After opening the bag, tightly seal it using clips or store in an airtight container to keep the chips crispy.
• Avoid exposure to heat and humidity as it can cause the chips to go stale quickly.
• If you have a large quantity that you will not consume in the short term, portion out the chips and freeze them in zip-top bags. Just be aware that this might affect their texture.
