Expiration & Storage Tips
When does Pea Salad expire?
Unopened, a store-bought pea salad can last in the fridge for about 3 to 5 days past the 'sell by' date on its package. If you have already opened the pea salad, it's safe to consume within 3 to 4 days. If it's a homemade variety, ideally it should be eaten within 2 days for the best quality. For frozen pea salads (although not often frozen) - expect them to stay good for about 3 months.
How do you tell if Pea Salad is bad?
You can easily tell that a pea salad has gone bad by detecting any unusual smell - it might smell sour or putrid. When touched, you will find that it has become slimy which is a clear sign of spoilage. Also, any visible molds or discoloration to a darker or brownish hue is a warning sign that it's not safe to consume anymore.
Tips for storing Pea Salad to extend shelf life
• Store your pea salad in airtight containers to keep it fresh for a longer time.
• If it's a homemade pea salad, it's recommended to refrigerate within two hours of preparation.
• If you notice any sign of spoilage, it's better to toss it out than to consume it and risk food poisoning.
• You can freeze the pea salad but the texture may change upon defrosting.
• If the salad was frozen, to defrost, it should be left in the refrigerator overnight.
