Expiration & Storage Tips
When does peach yogurt expire?
Unopened, most commercial peach yogurts can last in the refrigerator for 2-3 weeks past the 'sell by' date printed on the package. Once you open the tub, it's best to consume it all within 7-10 days. If you've decided to freeze your peach yogurt, it can stay good for up to 2 months. Thaw it overnight in the refrigerator before you plan to eat it. For homemade peach yogurt, you're looking at a shorter expiry date, typically lasting about one week in the refrigerator.
How do you tell if peach yogurt is bad?
Check for an unusual smell. If your peach yogurt has a strong sour odor, don't eat it. It has likely gone bad. Also, look for any changes in color or texture. If your peach yogurt appears to be more watery than usual or has developed lumps, this is another indication it is probably no longer safe to eat. Lastly, if you see mold or any other odd discolorations, chances are it's spoiled.
Tips for storing peach yogurt to extend shelf life
• Always store your peach yogurt in the refrigerator, and never leave it out for longer than two hours at room temperature.
• Consider dividing a large yogurt tub into individual portions in airtight containers if you anticipate not finishing the whole tub within a week of opening. This can prevent contamination and extend its shelf life.
• If you've got a large batch of homemade peach yogurt and won't consume it all before it spoils, try freezing it. But remember, texture might change upon thawing - it’s best used for smoothies or baking in that case.
• Keep your peach yogurt stored at the back of the fridge rather than in the door. The temperature is more stable at the back and could help it keep longer.
