Expiration & Storage Tips
When does almond milk yogurt expire?
Almond milk yogurt generally has a shelf life of two weeks if unopened and kept refrigerated. Please always check the 'Use By' date printed on the packaging, which might indicate a different timeframe. Once opened, you should consume the remaining yogurt within 5 to 7 days. It's not commonly kept in the freezer; however, if you do choose to freeze your yogurt, it can last up to two months. Be aware that freezing might change the texture and the yogurt might become less creamy when thawed.
How do you tell if almond milk yogurt is bad?
To determine if almond milk yogurt has gone bad, you should look for changes in its color, smell, and texture. Fresh almond milk yogurt should be creamy and have a slightly tangy smell. If the yogurt develops an off smell, has visible discoloration, goes lumpy or separates into a watery layer and a solid layer, it's time to toss it as it likely has spoiled. If you notice any mold on the surface, discard the entire container, not just the affected portion.
Tips for storing almond milk yogurt to extend shelf life
• Always keep your almond milk yogurt refrigerated, ideally at a temperature below 40°F.
• Once opened, make sure to seal the yogurt container properly before putting it back in the fridge.
• If you plan on freezing the yogurt, consider portioning it into smaller servings so you can thaw only what you need.
• Avoid returning unused portions back to the original container to prevent contamination, instead, try to take out only what you're about to consume.
• Always use a clean utensil when serving the yogurt.
