Expiration & Storage Tips
When does raspberry vinegar expire?
When unopened, a store-bought raspberry vinegar can last for up to 2-3 years past the date on its label, given it's stored in a cool and dry place. Once opened, it's best to use it within 6 months, although it'll still be safe to consume after this period as vinegar is self-preserving due to its acidity. If made at home, use it within 3 months for the best quality. Freezing raspberry vinegar isn't common, since vinegar doesn't freeze but it can be stored in the freezer to prolong shelf life.
How do you tell if raspberry vinegar is bad?
Though vinegar has an exceptionally long shelf life due to its acidic nature, there are a few signs that your raspberry vinegar might have gone bad. If you notice a change in color, an off smell, or any mold, it's best not to consume it. An excessive amount of sediment at the bottom is another sign. However, raspberry vinegar is often cloudy and may naturally have some sediment, so don’t throw it out just for that.
Tips for storing raspberry vinegar to extend shelf life
• Always close the cap or lid tightly after each use.
• Store in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight like a pantry or cupboard.
• Keep your raspberry vinegar in its original glass container, if possible, as plastic can alter its taste over time.
• Avoid cross-contamination by using clean utensils whenever dipping into the vinegar.
• If sediment appears at the bottom, giving the bottle a gentle shake before use can help distribute flavor.
