Expiration & Storage Tips
When does white zinfandel wine expire?
Unopened, a bottle of White Zinfandel Wine can last up to 1-2 years past the printed date if stored in a cool and dark place, but I recommend consuming it within the first year to really enjoy its taste. Once opened, it's best to use it up within 5-7 days to get the best flavour. Freezing wine is generally not a good idea as it can affect the aroma and taste, but if you do choose to freeze any leftover, always remember that wine expands in the freezer so pour it into an ice cube tray first. Always thaw it in the fridge before using it again.
How do you tell if white zinfandel wine is bad?
You can tell if your White Zinfandel Wine has gone bad if it has a sour, vinegary smell. It can also become cloudy, or you may notice a dull brown hue instead of the lively pink. The taste will also change, becoming less fruity and more acidic or sour. If it's unopened and you see that the cork has begun to push out from the bottle - that's a clear sign it has turned bad.
Tips for storing white zinfandel wine to extend shelf life
• Store White Zinfandel Wine in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight - an ideal would be a wine rack in a cellar or in a cool and dark corner of your pantry. Temperature fluctuations can spoil the wine.
• If you have opened it, re-cork it tightly or invest in a wine stopper, and keep it in the fridge.
• If you plan to not consume the entire bottle within a week, you can also use Wine Saver - a device that removes the air from the bottle and reseals it with a rubber stopper.
• If you have leftovers that you are sure you'll not be finishing, you can use the wine cubes trick for cooking, but remember to thaw in the fridge!
