Expiration & Storage Tips
When does blue curacao expire?
Blue Curacao is a type of liqueur, and thanks to its alcohol content, it typically doesn't spoil quickly. Unopened, it can last indefinitely if stored in a cool, dry place. Once opened, however, it's best to use it within 1-2 years for optimum flavor, even though its high alcohol content may still keep it safe to consume beyond this period. As with many liquors, freezing is not commonly suggested due to its high alcohol content which can prevent it from freezing completely.
How do you tell if blue curacao is bad?
While Blue Curacao doesn't spoil in a traditional way, it can lose its quality over time. You will notice the decrease in flavor intensity and the change in texture if it has been sitting opened for a long period. If your liqueur seems unusually thick, syrupy, or has developed off flavors, it might be best to replace it. There shouldn't be any mold or yeast growth in the bottle as the alcohol content is too high for their survival.
Tips for storing blue curacao to extend shelf life
• Store the Blue Curacao in a cool, dark place, preferably in the pantry or a liquor cabinet
• Make sure the bottle cap or cork is tightly sealed after every use to prevent oxidation
• Avoid storing it near heat sources like stoves or ovens as heat can hasten the decline of flavor
• If you've opened the bottle, it's a good idea to consume it within one or two years for the best taste
• Don't store Blue Curacao in the refrigerator for long periods as constant temperature changes can impact the quality.
