Expiration & Storage Tips
When does yuzu juice expire?
Yuzu juice usually comes in a bottled form and can last about 12-18 months unopened if it's properly stored in a cool and dark place, significantly longer than the printed date that generally states about 6 months. Once opened, yuzu juice should be kept in the refrigerator and consumed ideally within 1 to 2 weeks. However, for a lengthier period, yuzu juice can be frozen into ice cubes and kept in the freezer where it should remain safe for usage for 3-4 months.
How do you tell if yuzu juice is bad?
When yuzu juice goes bad, its color can darken, and it may develop a murky appearance or unusual spots. The taste will be off, possibly showing a bitter, sour, or fermented flavor that is markedly different from the original tart, tangy flavor. Lastly, a foul smell or the presence of mold are definite signs of spoilage.
Tips for storing yuzu juice to extend shelf life
• Store unopened yuzu juice in cool, dark pantry or cabinet.
• After opening, yuzu juice should be refrigerated. Ensure that the lid is tightly sealed to prevent air exposure.
• You can freeze yuzu juice in ice cube trays for longer-term storage. Once frozen, transfer the cubes to a sealed plastic bag. This way, you can conveniently thaw only the amount you need.
• Always use a clean spoon when you remove juice from the bottle, this will prevent any food contamination.
