Expiration & Storage Tips
When does Punch expire?
If unopened, a store bought punch mix or ready-made punch can last up to 9-12 months past the printed date on the package, as long as it is stored in a cool, dry place. Once opened, it should be consumed within 7-10 days. If you've made punch from scratch, it should be consumed within 3-5 days. For frozen punch, it can last up to 4-6 months in the freezer. For proper defrosting, transfer the frozen punch to the fridge and allow it to thaw naturally for a few hours or overnight before consumption.
How do you tell if Punch is bad?
A few signs to watch for if your punch is spoiled are changes in color, a sour smell, and a change in flavor. If it's store bought and sealed, leaking or bulging bottles or cans are also a sign of spoilage. In the case of homemade punch, if it has been left out for more than a few hours or overnight without refrigeration, it may be unsafe to consume. Always taste a small amount to confirm if the punch is still good.
Tips for storing Punch to extend shelf life
• Always store your punch in the refrigerator. Keep it in sealed containers or covered pitchers to maintain freshness.
• Do not leave punch out on the counter at room temperature for more than 2 hours.
• If your punch contains alcohol, remember that the alcohol will eventually evaporate if left uncovered. For longer storage, consider adding the alcohol just before serving.
• Punch can be frozen into punch ice cubes. This can be a fun and tasty way to chill your punch without watering it down with regular ice cubes. Plus, once frozen, the cubes can keep in your freezer to prolong the punch's shelf life.
