Expiration & Storage Tips
When does pink lemonade expire?
Commercially packaged pink lemonade that is unopened usually lasts between 9-12 months past the printed manufacturing date, thanks to the preservatives they contain. After being opened, it should be refrigerated and will ordinarily maintain its quality for 7-10 days. As for homemade pink lemonade, it should also be refrigerated and is typically best if consumed within 5-7 days. Unfortunately, freezing is not recommended for lemonade as it can alter the taste and consistency.
How do you tell if pink lemonade is bad?
If your pink lemonade has gone bad, it's usually fairly easy to tell. If it has been standing at a warm temperature for too long, or left in the fridge beyond its expiration, you might notice signs like an off smell, a change in color, or a particularly tangy, fermented taste not of the typical lemonade tartness. You can also see signs of mold or fermentation such as cloudiness or fizziness that wasn't there before. Any of these are signs that your beverage shouldn't be consumed.
Tips for storing pink lemonade to extend shelf life
• Always keep your pink lemonade refrigerated, whether it's commercially packaged or homemade. Keep it at 40°F or lower to avoid bacterial growth.
• Seal your lemonade container properly. If your container doesn't have a good seal, consider transferring the lemonade to a different container that does, to prevent it from spoiling.
• Avoid returning the lemonade to its container after pouring it into a glass or a cup. This could introduce bacteria, causing it to spoil sooner.
• Try to consume your lemonade as soon as possible after opening or making it to enjoy the best flavor and freshness.
