Expiration & Storage Tips
When does Dr. Pepper expire?
An unopened can or bottle of Dr. Pepper will typically last about 6-9 months past the printed date on the packaging when kept in a cool, dry place. However, if the drink has been opened, it's best to consume it within 2-3 days, as it will start to lose its carbonation. If it was left out at room temperature, it should not be consumed if it's been opened for more than a few hours. Freezing is not usually recommended for carbonated drinks as it can cause the container to explode or damage the integrity of the drink.
How do you tell if Dr. Pepper is bad?
If your Dr. Pepper has gone bad, you'll likely notice a change in the smell and taste. The drink might be flat, meaning it no longer has the same bubbly sensation when sipped. Also, take a look at the color. Although Dr. Pepper is typically dark, if it appears to be cloudy or has particles floating in it, it's best to throw it away. Never consume the beverage if the can or bottle is swollen or damaged or if it's been stored in severe heat or cold.
Tips for storing Dr. Pepper to extend shelf life
• Always store unopened Dr. Pepper in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
• Refrigerate Dr. Pepper immediately after opening. Remember to tightly seal the bottle, or the drink will lose its fizz quickly.
• Avoid freezing Dr. Pepper or storing in extreme cold or heat. Extreme temperatures might affect the quality and safety of the beverage.
• If you've purchased Dr. Pepper in small cans, try to consume it in one sitting or within a few hours of opening to maintain the flavors and carbonation.
