Expiration & Storage Tips
When does Creme Brulee expire?
Crème Brûlée is best eaten fresh, right after the caramelized sugar topping is set, to experience its signature crispiness. However, if you have left over or store-bought unopened crème brûlée, it is usually good for about 1-2 days in refrigerator. If you decide to freeze it, it can last up to 3 months if properly wrapped. After defrosting, consume it within 2 days.
How do you tell if Creme Brulee is bad?
Discoloration, a sour smell, mold growth, or a layer of liquid separating from the dessert are all signs that the crème brûlée has spoiled. Also, if the caramelized sugar top has become sticky and soggy, while it may not be spoiled, it certainly wouldn't provide the best eating experience.
Tips for storing Creme Brulee to extend shelf life
• Store crème brûlée in the fridge, covered with a plastic wrap, to prevent it from absorbing other refrigerator odors. Ensure it is sealed properly to keep it from drying out.
• Do not add the caramelized sugar top until you are ready to serve, as keeping it in the fridge will make it soggy.
• If you need to freeze crème brûlée, skip the caramelized sugar topping, wrap the individual serving containers in plastic wrap and aluminium foil to prevent freezer burn. When ready to serve, thaw in the fridge, add sugar, and then broil to get the required caramelized top.
