Expiration & Storage Tips
When does Spring Roll expire?
Spring rolls are a popular Asian cuisine item that can have a varied shelf life depending on their being stored. A packaged, unopened spring roll available in the frozen aisle can last 1 to 2 years if stored in the freezer continuously. However, it's always best to follow the 'use-by' date on the package. Once cooked or thawed, spring rolls need to be consumed within 2 hours. If it's a homemade spring roll, it's good for 3–4 days in the refrigerator.
How do you tell if Spring Roll is bad?
You can tell if a spring roll has gone bad by its color, smell, or texture. If it has a foul smell, discoloration, or a slimy texture, it has probably gone bad. Another clear sign is the presence of mold on the surface. Remember, when in doubt, it's always better to play it safe and discard the food item.
Tips for storing Spring Roll to extend shelf life
• Always refrigerate spring rolls after they've cooled down, ideally within two hours of cooking.
• When storing cooked spring rolls, wrap them individually in plastic wrap or aluminum foil before placing them in a resealable bag. This helps maintain their freshness.
• To reheat, avoid using a microwave if you value the crunchiness of the spring roll wrapper. Instead, use an oven or a stove.
• To store uncooked spring rolls for future use, arrange them on a baking sheet without touching each other, freeze for about an hour, and then transfer them into a bag. This prevents them from sticking together.
